It'd be nice to go into every show with a completely open mind but inevitably some plays you look forward to more than others. Nina Raine's Tribes made my top ten of 2010 so her follow-up (although this play was actually written first,) which she also directs, was my first must-see of 2011, especially once you add a great cast with plenty of London ( Read more... )

They probably won't have a hit this year to rival last year's two juggernauts, but so far Posh is the Royal Court's big seller, having sold out already. Purely shallow elements were in no way a factor, it just happens that sales suddenly got quite good when this cast photo was released.

I was very excited to see that the Almeida were doing a production of Rope as I remembered that I'd enjoyed the film version, but not much else about it (other than Hitchcock's famous filming gimmick.) Punk Rock is the third Simon Stephens play I've seen, and like Pornography the title refers to the tone of the piece rather than being a literal description of the subject matter. It's on at the Lyric Hammersmith, which earlier this year premiered Spring Awakening, and this shares the theme of teenagers under pressure (as well as one shared cast ( Read more... )
